You are being invited to participate in a three-day Regional Workshop on Media and Information Literacy (MIL) for Teacher Education, which is being jointly organized by UNESCO Office for the Caribbean and ICT4D Jamaica, with the collaboration of the Ministry of Education and other EduVision partners. The event will be held on November 25-27 at the Rose Hall Resort and Spa, Montego Bay. It is being conducted in consideration of the UNESCO draft teacher training curricula enrichment for media and information literacy project which is to be piloted in teacher training institutions in eight countries.
The workshop is to be held within the framework of the EduVision 2009 Conference (November 23 & 24), a biennial international event which provides an opportunity for teachers, educators and technology professionals to share knowledge and skills that can enhance educational practices via technology interventions. The UNESCO Kingston Cluster Office for the Caribbean and ICT4D Jamaica will grant the participation of 30 teacher trainers within the Caribbean and Latin American region. All participants (local and overseas) who register for the UNESCO workshop will be automatically registered for the EduVision Conference which commences on Monday, November 23, 2009.
The expected result of the teacher-training workshop is that the teacher-trainers will be better able to integrate MIL into the teacher-training process and will take the necessary steps to adapt the MIL curriculum to the requirements of their respective institutions. Participants in the workshop including the Latin American participants must have English as their working language and be one of the professional staff employed in a teachers’ college.
With a view to ensuring a quality workshop, the number of participants will be kept at an optimal level. We therefore advise that applications be made as soon as possible. (See link to application form below). UNESCO will invite at least one author of the curriculum to be the facilitator of the workshop so that the delivery will include all the various components.
Please return your completed registration form(s) via email to info@ict4djamaica.org or Melody_Palmer@heart-nta.org as early as Friday, July 24, 2009. Applications may also be submitted by fax to 876-960-9486, using this form. Once applications are received, further details pertaining to the organization and logistics of the workshop will be forwarded. Spaces are available for the workshop on a first come, first served basis.
